Salt Lakes Ibiza
Salt Lakes Ibiza
The
Salt Lakes in Ibiza are pronounced in Spanish Las Salinas.
On the southern most tips of
Ibiza island, close to the Airport, the salt lakes have been utilised for over 2000 years. The salt lakes are an important part of history as the Carthaginian's traded salt, they used to call it "white gold".
The salt is made as the water evaporates during the hot
summer months, creating a shimmery layer of pure salt, at the bottom of the lakes. The salt is mainly exported for table salt.
The
salt lakes produce a high level of iodine into the air which makes the air very healthy. People with arthritis say that they lead a healthier life here because of the Salt fields.
It is a really pictures area especially at sunset a great photo opportunity.
